Adi Irani sat for a conversation with Filmymantra, where he opened up about his work experience with several of his co-stars, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt and Govinda. Sharing his experience working with Govinda, the actor recalled the film, Anari No 1. In the film, he played the villain, ‘Tiger Tadipaar’, in the Govinda and Raveena Tandon starrer.
Despite the film not doing well at the box office, it is loved by Govinda’s fans. During the conversation, Adi recalled his working relationship with Govinda. The actor was asked if there was a time when he made Govinda feel insecure on set. Adi responded by stating that Govinda was insecure about everyone on set.
The actor recalled how Govinda was not confident in his capabilities to play a villain like ‘Tiger Tadipaar’ and had suggested adding two more villains alongside him. However, when the Hero No. 1 actor saw Adi in his costume, he felt confident. He revealed that Govinda couldn’t recognise him when he saw him in makeup and costume on the set of the film. He stated:
“He wasn’t convinced that I could play the role of Tiger Tadipaar in the film and suggested adding two other villains alongside me, but once he saw my look for the character, he felt confident that I could pull it off.”

Govinda would alter the scenes to make himself shine
In the same conversation, Adi Irani revealed that Govinda was a natural actor but would dance to his own tune. He shared that Govinda would read a scene and then make numerous changes to it. Adi further added that the changes wouldn’t just be to his own role but also to those who were acting around him. However, he admitted that he didn’t mind Govinda making the changes. He stated:
“He would read the scene and then would go on to change everything, not just his role but also the way people were acting around him in a scene. He would try to change the scene in a way that would help him shine over others in the frame.”
Adi Irani recalls making fun of Govinda’s dancing style
Further in the conversation, Adi Irani revealed that he and Govinda entered into the industry at the same time. He recalled that Govinda used to visit him in the dance studio, and he and his friends would often make fun of him. The actor admitted that he had no idea that Govinda would become famous for the same. He stated:
“While we were not together from day one, our struggle in the industry started almost together. He used to visit the studio where I learnt dancing, and at that point, my friends and I used to make fun of his style of dancing. We had no idea that one day that particular style would blow up, and he would be known for it; we were fools for laughing at him.”
