The Vadodara accident case has sent shockwaves across the country as another college student recklessly drove his car on the streets, claiming innocent lives. Moreover, some videos of Rakshit Chaurasia, the accused in the Vadodara car crash case, shouting on the streets without any ounce of guilt has fueled rage within the country. Amid this, recently, we got to know about how one of the victims who was left critically injured, is unaware that his wife, Hemali, has passed away in the incident. Their families are demanding strict punishment for Rakshit Chaurasia. Here’s what they said.
Critically injured victim, Purav’s family reveals he constantly asks for his wife, Hemali
Rakshit Chaurasia, a law student, drove his car under the influence of intoxicants on the night of March 13, 2025. He allegedly rammed his Volkswagen Virtus into multiple vehicles. Four among them have been left injured, and a woman, Hemali Patel, passed away on the spot. Her husband, Purav, sustained some serious injuries and was admitted to SSG Hospital, Vadodara. His nephew, Parth, recently sat down for an interview with The Indian Express and revealed that in a semi-conscious state, Purav has been constantly asking about his wife. He shared:
“We cannot tell him right now that she is no more… He is critical and on ventilator support. He cannot speak but is trying to communicate by scribbling with one hand on a paper. He wants to know where Hemali is, but we have not answered his question… What do we tell him?”
Parth shared that Hemali and Purav had been married for over 10 years and shared a close bond with their extended families. Hemali’s sudden demise has already left them shocked, and they aren’t sure if Purav will survive due to his critical health. Parth added that doctors have asked them to be hopeful about him, but they cannot predict the course of his recovery. Moreover, the duo’s parents are shaken by the incident and cannot speak or eat. In his words:
“It is the hardest time that our family has faced, all because of a person who took to the wheels under the clear influence of an intoxicant.”
Hemali and Purav’s family have hired lawyers to ensure strict punishment for Rakshit Chaurasia
Hemali’s elder sister, Nidhi, and younger brother live in Australia. Nidhi shared that she had a close bond with her sister and wouldn’t be able to forget her. She finds it difficult to imagine her life without Hemali because she used to talk with her about the smallest details throughout the day. At the same time, she and her family often call for her and can’t process that the incident has taken her away. They have hired an advocate to stand in with the prosecution to ensure that the accused, Rakshit Chaurasia, is not left easily. Sharing her views on the same, Nidhi said:
“The punishment should be so severe that anyone else who intends to drive after consuming alcohol or drugs, gets deterred… There can be no other way.”

Hemali and Purav’s family shared that they were a bubbly and welcoming family. While Purav worked at a private company in Savli, Hemali used to look after their house. Before marriage, Hemali was a national-level Kabaddi champion from Gujarat. She was second in line among the four siblings and shifted to Vadodara following her marriage to Fatehgunj-based Purav. Although they didn’t have any kids, she was a doting aunt to other kids in the family. Hemali and Purav had stepped out on the night of the incident to buy some items for the Holi celebration as they invited their relatives for a big bash on the next day, unaware of the tragedy that awaited them.
