Commissioners in Miami-Dade County, Florida, have officially approved renaming several streets after hit songs by Miami artists.
The initiative, led by Commissioner Keon Hardemon, will see parts of the Liberty City neighborhood renamed after tracks like Trina’s “Still the Baddest”, Ball Greezy’s “I Deserve It All”, and Luther Campbell’s “It’s Your Birthday.” The move follows national attention after an initial vote blocked the proposal earlier this month.
“We need to try something dramatic to really change the neighborhood,” Hardemon said. “People in these communities take music very seriously.”
This time around, the vote passed 9-3.
Here’s a look at some of the renamed streets:
- City Girls Street – NW 63rd Street
- Born N Raised Street – NW 67th Street
- We the Best Terrace – NW 68th Terrace
- Trick Love the Kids Street – NW 69th Terrace
- No Pain, No Gain Street – NW 71st Street
- Welcome to the MIA Terrace – NW 62nd Terrace
- Tunnel Vision Street – NW 66th Street
- Lovers and Friends Street – NW 69th Street
