FX is officially moving forward with its highly anticipated “Snowfall” spinoff, giving the project a pilot order, Variety reports. The potential series will bring back Gail Bean as Wanda Bell-Simmons and Isaiah John as Leon Simmons, picking up where the original show left off.
Set in 1990s Los Angeles, the series will follow Wanda, a recovering addict, as she navigates the rise of West Coast hip-hop while facing the dangers of ongoing gang violence.
Malcolm Spellman will serve as writer and executive producer, alongside “Snowfall” veterans Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, and Trevor Engelson. FX Productions is producing the pilot.
“Snowfall,” created by the late John Singleton, along with Eric Amadio and Andron, became one of FX’s most acclaimed series. The show ran for six seasons from 2017 to 2023, chronicling the crack cocaine epidemic in South Central LA and its ripple effects through different perspectives, including that of Franklin Saint (Damson Idris), CIA agent Teddy McDonald, and cartel enforcer Gustavo “El Oso” Zapata.
With its pilot order now official, fans of “Snowfall” are one step closer to returning to the streets of South Central, this time through Wanda’s eyes.
