Missed out on a stimulus check? You might still be in luck.
The IRS has begun sending payments to taxpayers who didn’t claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 tax returns.
If you qualify, you don’t need to do anything, the money will come automatically.
You have until April 15, 2025, to claim it, but you must file your 2021 tax return before that date.
The payments vary, with the maximum being $1,400 per person, and the IRS estimates around $2.4 billion in total payments. To get the full $1,400, individuals must have an adjusted gross income (AGI) of $75,000 or less. For married couples filing jointly, the full amount applies if their combined AGI is $150,000 or less, with the credit phasing out at $160,000. Dependents can also qualify for the full $1,400, no matter their age.
IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel stated that about one million taxpayers missed out on the credit.
If you think you qualify but haven’t filed yet, don’t wait—the April 15, 2025, deadline is fast approaching, so claim your payment before it’s too late.
