On this occasion, an old wedding video of a Down syndrome couple, 27-year-old Vignesh Krishnaswamy and 22-year-old Ananya Sawant, on July 5, 2023, has gone viral. They tied the knot in a three-day-long ceremony that included two traditional wedding ceremonies in Tamil and Maharashtrian styles to honour their respective roots. In addition, their mehendi, sangeet and haldi kept the internet hooked.ย
The coupleย were joined by their loved ones, who gave their best wishes to the couple, breaking social barriers and advocating for people with special needs. For those unaware, Down syndrome is a genetic condition where people have an extra copy of chromosome 21 with different physical features, such as almond-shaped eyes, flat nasal bridge, and small mouth. They also deal with learning and cognitive development issues. The mutual love and care between this Down syndrome couple set a wonderful example of unity and inclusiveness. She had an opportunity to meet Ananya’s sister, and they planned to discuss the possibility of meeting for their marriage’s sake. Vignesh and Ananya met several times and kept in touch by WhatsApp and email. Consequently, their parents noticed their strong bond and decided to tie the knot. The groom’s mother mentioned that Ananya is a part of their family, and although it won’t be easy for her to relocate to Dubai as she desires, they will offer her all kind of care.ย
