The Income intelligence department (DRI) arrested Sakhila Jayne, the third accused of smuggling the gold smuggling with the participation of the actress of Canada Rao. Jane was taken into custody and will remain as part of the DRI detention until Saturday.
Who is Sakhil Jane?
According to India todaySakhil Jane is originally from the famous business family in Balara, Karnataka. His father, Mahendra Jane, is dealing with his uncle. While his family recently moved to Bengalur, Sakhil stayed in Mumbai with his mother’s uncle during supposedly smuggling.
Jane is not new for the case of smuggling gold. He was previously arrested in Mumbai for participating in a similar operation, where the authorities seized 6.9 kg of gold from the passenger who arrived from Calcutta. Studies have shown that within ten months, Jane received about 180 kg of smuggled gold worth approximately 66 rupees.
The role in the case of the early raa
According to DRI, Jane played a decisive role in the sale of smuggled gold. It allegedly helped spread 14.568 kg of gold, which the early Rao smuggled to India on January 11, 2025. Gold worth 11.55 rupees led to the loss of customs duty in the amount of almost 4.46 rupees.
On March 3, Rao was caught at Bengalur Airport with gold grates hidden around her body. She later confessed that the money for smuggling gold was received through illegal Hawala operations. The case also led to the Karnataka DGP Ramchandra Rao was sent on vacation when he was accused of helping the actress to bypass the airport checks.
The investigation is ongoing and DRI examines the wider participation of Jain on the smuggling network.
